Length of Bridge is ...Solution to Length of Bridge;
Length of Bridge is 28 metre
Dr D M Kagathara-Morbi
The solution is as under:
Suppose length of bridge is “2A” metres, so midpoint will be “A” metre.
Start point of bridge is S, mid point is M and end point is E.
According to given conditions, when Chano (C) hears vhistle, Chano is 10 metre near from mid point M, so situation in first event will be as under;
E---------A--------------M-----10---------C----A-10------S------------2A----------------------Train(T)
At the time of crossing, Chano was 4 metre away from S, so at the tine of crossing situation will be
E---------A--------------M------------------------S----4-----CT----------------2A --------------
Chano runs A-10+4 (A-6) metre and train runs 2A-4 metres.
Trains speed is 90km/hr (90000 metre/hr); train take (2A-4)/90000 hours to cut 2A-4 metre.
In same time Chano runs A-6 metre. So chana’s speed is
(2A-4)/90000 : 1 :(A-6),
So Channa’s speed is (A-6) X 90000 / (2A-4) metre/hour……………………..(1)
During second event situation will be as under;
E----8------CT-------------M------------------------S---------------------------2A -----------------
Chano runs 10+A-8= (A+2) metres and train runs 2A+2A-8=(4A-8) metres.
Trains speed is 90000metre/hr; train take (4A-8)/90000 hours to cut 4A-8 metres.
In same time Chano runs A+2 metre. So Chana’s speed is
(4A-8)/90000 : 1 ::(A+2)
=(A+2) X 90000 / (4A-8) metres/hour………………………………………..(2)
Both times Chana’s speed was same, so
(A-6) X 90000 / (2A-4) =(A+2) X 90000 / (4A-8)
(A-6)/(2A-4)={(A+2)}/{2(2A-4)}
(A-6)=(A+2)/2; So 2A-12=A+2; 2A-A=2+12; A=14
So 2A=14 X 2=28 metres length of bridge…….Dr D M Kagathara-Morbinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8289183275234086319.post-38927986703781047422012-01-05T18:23:06.068-08:002012-01-05T18:23:06.068-08:0028 meter
